Dr. Bonilla completed a 4-year residency in Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where she was elected by her peers as Assistant Chief Resident in 2006 and graduated in 2007. Being this training site a combined civilian and military training program, she had the privilege to serve active duty personnel, dependents and a wide variety of veterans, in addition to the standard rotations at county and private facilities; getting exposure to a wide range of patients.
She completed a 1-year Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at University of Pittsburgh Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and gained additional expertise in management of the different types of dementia, late onset depression, grief, and other problems related to aging
In 2008, Dr. Bonilla began working as a hospitalist at Sutter Center for Psychiatry in Sacramento. She works hard to provide the best care possible to hospitalized patients, using a multidisciplinary approach to help each person. Making an effort to integrate all aspects of a patient’s life into the treatment plan to achieve maximum success. Her contributions to the hospital and her patients were recognized with the James Margolis Award of Excellence in Clinical Practice in 2010.
Since 2011 Dr. Bonilla has been working exclusively in an outpatient setting, where she strives to integrate her knowledge of psychopharmacology, neuromodulation and psychotherapy to provide a well rounded service to her patients.
Dr. Bonilla is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry. She is also certified in Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Her areas of expertise include treatment-resistant depression, late-life depression, grief, and OCD.
She has been using TMS for the treatment of depression since 2010 and will be launching the TMS for OCD program at TMS Health Solutions in the Sacramento area in 09/2019.
