William Hervey, MD, MBA was graduated from Loyola University (New Orleans, BA), Georgetown University (MBA), and the University of South Florida (MD). His residency training at the University of South Florida included working as an Internal Medicine hospitalist, inpatient and outpatient pediatric physician and an inpatient consult neurologist as well as general psychiatry. He is board-certified in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and general psychiatry and served as Chief Resident Physician.
He is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of medicine where he lectures first and second year medical students as well as first and second year psychiatry resident physicians.
Dr. Hervey is a successful scientific author and has published several articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. His areas of expertise include: catatonia, addiction, medical ethics, federal health care policy, the psychiatric and ethical aspects of prisoner interrogation, healthcare disparities and the neuropsychiatric effects of HIV infection.
Dr. Hervey’s physician colleagues selected him as one of the best physicians in America for the years 2017–2018.
Dr. Hervey earned the coveted John E. Turlich MD Award for Outstanding Teaching Resident, and was Selected as best resident-physician teacher of 700+ residents by the USF College of Medicine fourth year Graduating Class of 2011. He was only the second psychiatry resident to receive that honor.
Dr. Hervey earned the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching for demonstrating the integrity, compassion, altruism, respect, empathy and service that combined with clinical excellence to provide optimal patient care. He was chosen by popular vote of the third-year medical student class.
Dr. Hervey was also inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Inductees are selected for demonstrating compassionate patient care and serving as role models, mentors and leaders in medicine. Members are vote-selected by peers as the physician in whom they would most trust the medical care of their own family.
Dr. Hervey is a strong advocate of evidence-based medicine. Having served as a member of a U.S. Presidential Administration, he can speak to the inner workings of federal policy making as well as from the perspective of a physician on the front lines.
