Board Approves Establishment and Funding for FACTMS

CTMSS Board of Directors approves establishment
and funding for FACTMS

The Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical TMS (FACTMS) was the brainchild of Paul Croarkin who was the President of CTMSS in 2017. He had a vision to initiate a foundation where charitable donations could be received and then be distributed for worthy activities that would further the advancement of clinical TMS therapy. The original directors were Paul, Ian Cook and David Dunner. FACTMS laid dormant until the strategic planning meeting of our board of directors in 2021 in West Palm Beach during my presidency. At that meeting the board decided as one of its initiatives to establish FACTMS. Over the past year our Executive Director Ashleigh Servadio and I worked to form a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation and it was established in May 2022. At the meeting of our board of directors at our annual meeting last May in Chicago President Abdelghani formed Special Committees of the board and FACTMS took off as one of the special committees. In addition, the board approved $5000 to pay for the administrative costs of establishing FACTMS. Our committee has been meeting frequently with the strong assistance of Marcel Bourdase Chief Operating Officer of our administrator Exchange to complete the FACTMS originating documents. At our CTMSS BOD meeting in August, the board approved $50,000 to fund the Foundation. Furthermore, the board approved that I would serve as the interim President, Ian Cook as the interim Treasurer and Kevin Kinback as the interim Secretary.  The interim Board of Directors of FACTMS would be comprised of members of the FACTMS Special Committee of the CTMSS board.

Our foundation board worked assiduously and have put together our founding bylaws, conflict of interest policy, and an IRS 1023 form that is required for the establishment of a charitable foundation. FACTMS is a totally volunteer organization save payment to any administrative staff and consultants and our COI is very strong in making sure that there is no self-dealing.

Mission

The Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical TMS (FACTMS) is committed to supporting TMS education and research, improving the quality of TMS care, raising public awareness of the benefits of TMS, and overcoming barriers to treatment. The FACTMS Board of Directors, committees and other delegated professionals will oversee and conduct the activity of the Foundation. The FACTMS office is in Fresno, California, but the work of the Foundation will extend throughout the United States and around the world. We will allocate 100 percent of our total time and expenses towards the organization's vision to support TMS education and research, improve the quality of TMS care, raise public awareness of the benefits of TMS and overcome barriers to treatment. We will fund the Foundation through general donations from TMS medical professionals, TMS patients, TMS device companies and anyone interested in supporting our mission. Our activities will have a direct public benefit in the United States and around the world as we continue to promote the benefits of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and provide greater access to TMS for those in need.

During the November CTMSS board meeting I requested approval of the constructed bylaws, conflict of interest policy and funding for launching FACTMSS.  The board unanimously approved these motions and generously provided an additional $50,000 seed money (total $100,000) to establish, administer and fund the foundation. We have submitted our founding documents and are looking forward to our first FACTMS Board of Directors meeting in January 2023.  We hope by the time of our next CTMSS Annual meeting in Colorado to have our tax-deductible status approved so we can begin to accept donations to build an endowment to fulfill our charitable mission. Stay tuned for further updates.
