Linda L. Carpenter

MD, FCTMSS

Linda L. Carpenter, MD is a Professor of Psychiatry in the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Director of the TMS Clinic and Neuromodulation Research Facility at Butler Hospital. She is also Deputy Director of the Butler COBRE Center for Neuromodulation, and Director of the Center’s Neuromodulation and Neuroimaging Core, where she provides training and other resources for neuromodulation researchers in the Rhode Island area.

She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and her MD at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by psychiatry residency training and a clinical neuroscience research fellowship all at Yale University.

Dr. Carpenter’s current research focuses on the development of new treatments for depression and anxiety disorders. She has also conducted a number of randomized clinical trials sponsored by Industry and NIH, investigating the clinical effects and mechanisms of new devices for treating depression, including Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and various others. Dr. Carpenter’s lab evaluates ways to enhance TMS treatment outcomes using EEG, fMRI, and Ecological Momentary Assessment Aps.
